An ordinary place in the universe is the near vacuum of interstellar space,
one atom per cubic meter, three degrees above absolute zero.
But you and I are extraordinary places. In us, the universe has become conscious, able to reflect upon itself.
To wit: how can matter manifest mind? How can thought and feeling emerge from atoms in motion?
Is a thinking, feeling, universe a miracle or an accident
or an inevitable unfolding of the laws of physics?
At the interface between science and religion,
we will speculate on the origin of life, the nature of consciousness,
the possibility of extraterrestrial life, and the fate
or destiny of life and mind in the universe.
